Starting a new degree was an adventure. After studying Environmental studies as my bachelor, diving into many different topics was sometimes challenging but also very rewarding. I felt excited about new approaches to science and problem-solving strategies. I had a lot of out-of-school responsibilities, so I decided to take my first semester slowly and took classes with only 32 credits in total, which is not as much as I was used to. It was a great decision, and it helped me find the balance between different aspects of my life. Even though the semester wasn’t that demanding, I faced many challenges and sometimes struggled, but that is part of the process.
ISKM01 – Information sciences
Information sciences were really hard to follow during the semester. Sometimes, I missed some concepts, and catching up took a lot of energy. These introduction subjects are always complex and full of new information. PhDr. Michal Lorenz always created useful presentations and tried to discuss the topic with us. Sometimes, the questions for discussions were quite hard to understand for a person discovering the subject. While studying for the exam, I finally clicked all the puzzles together, and it finally made sense for me.
ISKM02 – DISRI
Service design was the biggest reason why I decided to apply at KISK, so I had big expectations about this course. The course focused on different topics of the design process, different approaches to design thinking, speculative design, design in public spaces, etc. I loved that we had a few different hosts, which helped me to imagine how designers can work, what different options are, and what their favorite projects are. I would love to go a little bit deeper. It was really an introduction to the area, and I am excited to learn more in the following semesters. The course was interactive, and I really liked the little tasks that we had to reflect on the information we learned and also try parts of the process.
ISKM03 – Literature, market and library processes

ISKM03 confused me in the beginning. I loved that the course wanted to focus on different aspects and show us libraries, book markets, and even more, but it was not cohesive enough. Every part also had different tasks we had to do, and because the instructions weren’t clear to me, it stressed me that I would not be able to finish them as well as I wanted. My favorite part was, for sure, the third one. The publishing market is really interesting, and I wanted to learn as much as possible. I must admit that I didn’t focus on my work as much as I wished, and I can imagine doing better, but unfortunately, we cannot always give 100 %.
ISKM04 – bachelor thesis seminar: methodology of lis
Writing a thesis was and still is my biggest nightmare. I love to learn, and I love to create new things, but academic writing is not my strongest skill. I loved that this subject showed me different areas on which I can focus. I was inspired by previous master theses that lectures presented. To be honest, I am still scared and not really excited about this part of my degree, but I am finding ways how to make it the most interesting for me.
ISKM88 – leadership, or managing people (not only) in the library
Two intensive days about leadership styles and how to be the best leader. The course was full of important information and research-based advice. I would appreciate shorter classes within more than two days because it was hard to pay attention the whole time, and I was really exhausted. I was also excited to use my new skills in our ESN section, and I believe it helped.
ISKM91 – introduction to facilitation
I learned about facilitation and being a conformal educator at a training-for-trainers course from ESN called Eduk8. I loved that this course reignited my love for facilitation and helped me realize, how useful it can be for my future career in Design or other.
ISKM61 – MOOC: LEARNING ONLINE
I reflected a lot in this course. You can find my reflections here.
