After spring in Salzburg, I was excited to go back to MUNI. I wanted to develop new skills and choose courses that would bring me new perspectives, and I had a lucky hand. In this post, I will highlight 3 things that I learnt and took from these classes.

ISKM11 – Society, Technology and the Cultural Arena
- I finally read Slepé skvrny by Daniel Prokop, which had been on my TBR for a long time, and it’s really insightful.
- Our team created a Decision tree helping NGOs with crisis management. You can read more about the process here.
- I fell in love with using glass and windows as boards for brainstorming and process visualisation. The board’s transparency reminds me that we should design within the environment we live in, not just in our cave, without seeing the consequences.
ISKM08 – MASTER THESIS SEMINAR
- I found the topic of my Master’s thesis that I am really passionate about!
- Thanks to the great support from Roman Sellner Novotný, I wrote a Master’s Thesis project that served as a starting point for my future work.
- You can learn about my thesis here.
ISKMO5 Information policy and management & ISKM12 Knowledge Organization
- Even though the subjects differed in terms of both content and conclusion. Their content complemented each other so well that I perceive them as a set.
- Knowledge Organization was my first oral exam at KISK and stressed me a bit, but in the end, it was amazing to spend more focused time on the topic and connect all the dots.
- Information Policy and MNGMNT had an amazing written exam, which forced me to apply the knowledge in theoretical scenarios. During that exam, I became an information manager in so many companies that I could add it to my CV. 😀

ISKB54 – Community Curatorship
- I got the academic background on what it means to live communially and how to create and foster communities.
- Learning from peers, not only from my degree, but also from the Lifelong learning course, was engaging and really fun.
- This course marked the start of our work at the very first Winter School.
ISKM82 – Systemic thinking and design
- This course was co-hosted with the Faculty of Fine Arts, which brought a new perspective to the class, with Information science students focusing on Service Design and Fine arts students focusing on art, graphic design, internmedia design, etc.
- Long, unstructured seminars challenged my ability to focus, and I did not learn as much as I hoped.
- It was interesting how much design and environmental approaches can connect.
ISKM52 – Digital Games – analysis and design
- Another great collaboration – this course is open to students from KISK and the Faculty of Informatics as well. I would appreciate if our paths would cross more during the course.
- There was a strong balance between academic foundations, background information from the practice, and game prototyping.
- During the course, we designed a board game inspired by Alchymists and their potion making, we learn how challenging is to balance the game well so it is fun to play, not too easy or hard to win and so on.
ISKB56 Introduction to SQL
- Great hands-on course teaching the basics of SQL, which I treasure still to this day and use when I need to work with data.
- It reminded me how much I like problem-solving and analytical thinking.
