Massive online open courses caught my eye a few years ago. They were presented as a great way to learn new skills, discover new areas, and try education at other universities from the comfort of my home. I was excited when I found out that I could get credits for attending these courses! Finally, someone will force me to commit and try them. I started with the course from The Pennsylvania State University called Creativity, Innovation, and Transformation. I am creative and innovative, and learning about working with those ideas perfectly fits me.
The first week of the course focused on the Innovation toolbox, ways to catch your ideas, and open your mind to improve your thinking. I was intrigued after reading this description, but the reality didn’t suit me well. The course was created with a few short videos disrupted with little notes, tasks, and thought exercises, and it was tough to get into the topic. The videos went really shallow, mainly explaining one term quickly and without some detail. To conclude, the conversations sounded like bits of self-help podcasts and not as a course.
An activity I enjoyed was creating a failure resume because it helped me to reflect on things I’ve failed and got better at later. I am curious what the next week, of course, will bring. I hope we will have the opportunity to dive better into the topic and maybe hear about some theories or research focused on creativity and innovation.
